Winter field day is approaching. Thanks to KN6PUR we will WFD at McSweeny Park Saturday January 28th. Fun Starts at 11AM. Charlie KN6SOG is donating fresh tortillas and Carne Asada and AI6ZW is doing the cooking. KE6CED is bringing his 150′ end fed antenna and poles. KN6SOJ will be there with his Hustler antenna. WA6SPY will be doing satellite communications and I’ll be running FT8 on HF and System Fusion via pi-star. We’ll also be testing at 9AM so come early and get tested for your FCC licence or upgrade. Then stay and take in some radio fun. That’s right folk we’ll put a mic in one hand and a taco in the other, but maybe not at the same time. We’ll also have ARES & LDARC information and people there to help you get involved locally. I hope to see a lot of you there to represent and help grow our local radio community. There are door prizes for Visitors, Members & Volunteers. More information is available on our website, and next week’s club meeting.
We are finally moving froward with the auction of Jan’s radio gear donation. The first auction will be for our volunteers. Russell KN6PTD has some expertise in this area and has kindly offered to help us with our Auctions. We will be posting the items list on the website shortly. The second auction will be for our general membership and will occur at a upcoming LDARC event like, field day or club meeting depending on the timing of things. Information will be posted on our website. I wanted to have our auctions on the website but I must confess that I have been the holdup here. For that reason and for the meantime, we’ll have auctions the old fashion way. The future is coming but it’s not here yet. Thank you for your patients with me.
All that said we have 2 more donations at Steve’s house. Volunteers get to bid first so if you would like to help document and organize those donations we would live your help. We are looking at the first or second Saturday in February so raise your hand during roll call to volunteer.
For Bands and Modes tonight we’re going to switch it up once again. At around 20:30hrs we will move to another part of the 10M band. This frequency will be chosen by one of our participants. The goal is to find the frequency with the least background noise. This frequency must be in the area for technician class. Once there, we’ll share signal reports and overall communication quality. Then we’ll do it once again only this time to any band or frequency that is accessible with a general class licence. Once again looking for the best local communication experience. Hope to hear you tonight on HF at 20:00hrs 28.360 USB.
Tomorrow Bands and Modes goes digital. After the Digital Only Net at 20:00 hrs we’ll go to C4FM simplex (what I call C4-2) 144.975. 2 Meter C4FM really has been the star of the Bands and Modes so far. It consistently gets out and sounds good for us all over this valley. Join us tomorrow after the Digital only Net @ 144.975 C4FM.
Next Wednesday is our first club meeting of the year.

ARRL Affiliated Club Commission Program
Why subscribe or renew with our club?
- The ARRL Affiliated Club Commission Program allows ARRL Affiliated Clubs to earn a commission on new and renewing regular memberships.
- Each new ARRL member earns the club a $15.00 commission. New members are defined as never having been a member or a returning member that has not been a member for two years. Each renewal now earns the club a $5.00 commission. There is no limit to the amount a club can earn in this program.
Your membership supports ARRL’s work to promote and protect amateur radio and provides you with benefits to do more with your amateur radio license.
By renewing or better yet subscribing through our club you not only benefit ARRL, they will return a commission to us.
ARRL fights for our right to use ham radio and with all the bands we enjoy. From field day to learning antenna design, they provide the resources you need.
ARRL membership is a great way to support your operating privileges at every level from Washington to Hemet. Get the most from your callsign by supporting ARRL and of course the Le DeForest amateur radio club.
