Lee De Forest Amateur Radio Club
We are an Amateur (HAM) Radio Club in the Hemet / San Jacinto valley. We participate in ARRL’s annual Field Day, occasional disaster drills and other public events (marathons etc.) to provide much needed communication. We assist during emergencies, when needed through groups such as A.R.E.S and R.A.C.E.S. We have regular on-air meetings, called “nets” – see the Repeater & Nets page for more on that. Anyone can become an Amateur Radio Operator and get involved. It’s a lot of fun and you get to meet and hang out with some great people. Our club gets it’s name from an inventor.
Lee de Forest was an early radio pioneer. He invented many things but is famous for inventing the triode radio tube. Radios have evolved over time and are far more advanced than what he could have imagined in his day. Today, we do not have to build radios from what parts we can find, from a kit, or make from scratch, like he did.
Amateur Radio (Ham Radio) is a popular hobby and service that brings people, electronics and communication together. People use ham radio to talk across town, around the world, or even into space, all without the Internet or cell phones. It’s fun, social, educational, and can be a lifeline during times of need.
