Tonight for Bands & Modes we are going to switch it up just a bit. I currently have a 10 meter DiPole, R5 vertical, Camillan end fed & a 500w 10meter hamstick installed and ready to go tonight. I’ll will be transmitting on each and getting signal reports from the group. Please feel free to try and get reports on any antennas you want to test as well. That’s right, it’s a 10meter battle royal. Then once we land on the best overall antenna choice for the evening we’ll move to 29.635 FM and see how we do there. So test them if you got ’em on the regular Eagle Net at 28.360 USB. Then we’ll buzz over to the other end of the band (sorry general class or better here) for some FM fun at 29.630.
As one of my last acts as LDARC VP I have booked Bob Brehm for our February Meeting. As you know January 28 is Winter Field Day. Many of you benefited from Bob’s great presentation on RFI earlier this year so I thought you might also benefit from his presentation on End Fed antennas. We’ll have at least one end fed antenna up for everyone to use. I love the end fed for it’s ease deployment and stealthy look. But most of all, I love that it does all HF bands. I personally love 12 and 17 meters. I also really like 6 and 30 meters. So for these reasons I recommend the end fed antenna. There are a number of ways to deploy the end fed antenna and there are also some important do’s and don’ts. Bob’s website offers great information on selecting the right end fed antenna, but I still needed to make sure of a few things. He picked right up and was very generous with his time as always. I ordered my end fed antenna today. It’ll be a 92′ wire in a downward L pattern. Furthermore I’ll be using the coax as counterpoise. More on that this Friday on the last Elmer hour of the year. And don’t forget! Next years VP KN6UNL is already hard at work! Dr. Fong will be giving a presentation on j-pole antennas at our March Club Meeting. This is a celebrated j-pole design and he’s going to tell us how it works. Really looking forward to Dr. Fong’s presentation at our March club meeting. Thank You Marcos!
This will be the last net of the year and with AI6ZW as our club president. If you missed my message to Steve at our LDARC Christmas Dinner Event, I’m including it HERE. Steve, on behalf of the LDARC, thank you for your leadership, vision and hard work.
On New Years Eve 23:30 hrs, I’ll have our zoom meeting link up and running. Anyone who wants to say Hi and wish the group a happy new year should use this link.
Happy New Year everyone. See you in 2023. 73
