The County of Riverside Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is currently at Management Watch due to the Red Flag Fire Weather Warning.
A Red Flag Warning is in effect beginning Tuesday, January 7th from 1:00 pm until Thursday, January 9th. Residents and visitors are reminded that outdoor burning is prohibited. Avoid activities that could start fires. Report any smoke or flames immediately.
A Red Flag Fire Weather Warning is issued when critical weather conditions increase the risk of wildfire. This includes low humidity, strong winds, dry vegetation, and high temperatures, creating conditions where fires can start easily and spread rapidly.
For more information on active fires, visit https://www.rvcfire.org/incidents.
For more information on wildfires and how to prepare, click here.
All Riverside County residents should sign up for Alert RivCo at RivCoReady.org/AlertRivCo and download the County’s Protect app here.
Additionally, Southern California Edison has notified the County of Riverside Emergency Management Department that they may conduct Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) to minimize wildfires should powerlines be damaged during the wind event.
A PSPS is an operational practice that power companies such as Southern California Edison (SCE) may use to preemptively shut off power in high-fire-risk areas to reduce fire risk during extreme and potentially dangerous weather conditions. These conditions would typically involve weather conditions such as relatively low humidity, strong winds, and hot temperatures in combination with dry fuels.
For tips on power outages and how to prepare, click here.
For information on food safety during and after a power outage, please download this helpful brochure (in both English and Spanish).
To see a map of current and potential shutoffs, visit www.sce.com/wildfire.

Complaints should also include a name and telephone number where the complainant can be reached for further details, if necessary. Please submit your complaints/concerns regarding amateur radio to the Commission’s on-line complaint system. The appropriate form for your complaint can be found here: https://consumercomplaints.fcc.gov and click on the radio icon.
Willful or Malicious Interference Complaints
Section 97.101(d) of the Commission’s Rules prohibits amateur operators from willfully or maliciously interfering with or causing interference to any radio communication or signal. 47 C.F.R. § 97.101(d).
The Spectrum Enforcement Division, in conjunction with the Regional and Field Offices, is responsible for responding to complaints of willful and/or malicious interference among amateur radio service licensees.

Bands & Modes Monthly HF Contest
Lets have some fun, and change up Bands & Modes a bit.
On the third Tuesday for bands and modes, from 20:30 to 21:00 we work for points, fun & prestige. all while improving our HF capabilities.
Here’s the plan.
- 2 Points for any QSO on any band, using any mode.
- 1 point for any QSO another station makes using the frequency you shared with the group.
1 bonus point for each QSO you post on QRZ.com
And for those of you who really want get big points,
10 points for any CW contact on any band.
Finally, as an incentive to help new hams use the tech area of 10M
2 bonus points for any QSO made by you or another station you sent to the tech area of the 10M band.
Our regular 10M frequency will continue to be our net frequency.
Points and frequency’s are to be reported to net control. Only then do the points count.
Net control will also keep track of who found a frequency we use for a QSO’s.
The winner will receive an official, LDARC, ATABOY.
All QSO’s must be made using modes and frequencies indicated on the icom band plan linked here
As always, only operate within the parameters of your FCC license.
I just made all of this up so any feedback you have will be appreciated.
